Counselling

The aim of our counselling programme is to strengthen the clients’ ability to work through the challenges facing them in their life space.

Our plan is to train Child Care Givers, Community Care Workers and Counsellors in:

  • Counselling
    • Identify clients who require counselling.
    • Decide on the type of counselling (pre-test, play therapy, dealing with abuse etc).
    • Refer clients to appropriate counselling service (either internally or externally).
  • Memory books/ boxes
    • Identify if a client would benefit by making a memory book or box.
    • Discuss the matter with client.
    • Introduce client to the memory book/ box programme.
    • Assist client to develop a memory book, working at his/her pace.
    • Counsel a client on issues that emanate from the development of the memory box/ book.
    • Encourage client to continue working on the box/book at home.
  • Bereavement
    • Within 48 hours after the death of a loved one, arrange for a counsellor to provide counselling to the client/ family.
    • Ensure that the counsellor visits the family at least once before the funeral.
    • Assess the need for ongoing counselling.
    • The counsellor contracts with the client for ongoing counselling.
    • Write up a report on counselling sessions.
    • Terminate services with the client.
