Cotlands bags another good governance award

Cotlands has won another Integrated Reporting Award 2016 in recognition of its good governance and transparency by the Chartered Secretaries of Southern Africa (CSSA) and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE).

The Non-Profit Organisation Category Merit Award, which was Cotlands’ sixth award since 2011, was presented to the organisation during a ceremony held at Montecasino in Johannesburg on the evening of Wednesday, 16 November 2016.

This is after Cotlands’ decision to expand its reach beyond children in residential care to those living in poor communities without access to essential early childhood development programmes.

This year Cotlands also celebrated its 80th anniversary in childcare. This coincided with the organisation’s progression into offering essential early childhood development opportunities to vulnerable children across six provinces.

In 2016 alone, Cotlands had reached up to 11 363 children in Gauteng, Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga, Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and North West.

Cotlands chief executive officer Jackie Schoeman described the recent CSSA and JSE’s recognition of the organisation as a vote of confidence.

“As an organisation, we work very hard to earn and maintain the trust and support of communities, our funders and partners. The Merit Award is a report card that Cotlands can proudly share with these important stakeholders,” Schoeman said.

She added: “The award will certainly also go a long way in ensuring that Cotlands receives the necessary support we need to reach more children, who are at risk of being underdeveloped, with ECD programmes that are designed to ignite their learning potential today for better performance later in life.”
