Mission
Cotlands cares for young children in need by providing psychosocial, education and healthcare services through residential and community based programmes.
In establishing our mission, our word choice was influenced as detailed below:
Young children - the age on admission into any Cotlands programmes is between birth and six years
Once admitted, the age ranges for providing care are:
- 0 – 6 years for residential care
- 0 – 12 years for community based care.
When children reach the maximum age, they need to be referred to other organisations for follow up services. However, as there are no resources in KwaZulu-Natal, the age group served is between 0 – 18 years.
Children in need – describes children who are at risk of being (or who have been) abused, neglected, abandoned, orphaned, vulnerable and malnourished. Also includes children with life limiting or life threatening illnesses.
